Matcha-Sakura Iced Latte

Sakura (cherry blossom) is the symbol of Japanese spring. Sakura powder preserves its delicate floral flavor for sweet treats. In this matcha-sakura latte, earthy matcha meets floral sakura – a beloved, balanced combination.

Sakura, or cherry blossom might be the ultimate symbol of Japanese spring. The delicate blossoms only bloom a very short time, but thanks to sakura powder, their floral, subtle flavour can be captured and used in beautiful sweet creations.

In this matcha-sakura latte, the vibrant, green bitterness of matcha is softened by the gentle, floral aroma of cherry blossom. In Japan, this combination is loved for its perfect balance: earthy and floral, powerful yet delicate.

For this latte, we use high-quality Japanese matcha and sakura powder made from fresh cherry blossoms. We recommend using 1.5 teaspoons of sakura powder for one latte, but feel free to add more if you like a stronger floral taste.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 teaspoons good-quality matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon sakura powder
  • 50 ml water
  • Sweetener to taste (honey or sugar)
  • 230 ml milk
  • Ice cubes

Preparation

Place 1.5 teaspoons of matcha powder in a glass. Add 50 ml of lukewarm water, make sure the water isn’t too hot, as this can affect the texture of the matcha.

Whisk the matcha well using a bamboo whisk or small whisk until fully dissolved and frothy.

Add 1 teaspoon of sakura powder to the matcha mixture and stir well. Taste and add more sakura powder if you like a stronger flavour. Sweeten with honey or sugar if desired, and stir again.

Fill a glass with ice cubes and cold milk. Slowly pour the matcha-sakura mixture over the milk and ice. Serve immediately.
